Today I was eating watermelon and looking at the empty watermelon rinds, I started wondering what else interesting I could make with these watermelon rinds. So I quickly went to my kitchen and gathered all the ingredients for my new recipe. Let's delve deeper into how a simple-looking watermelon rind can be transformed into a colorful and sweet tutti frutti with just a few simple steps that you can use to decorate your ice creams, softies, cakes, cupcakes, muffins etc.
Recipe Instructions!
Step: 1). Firstly, gather your watermelon rind and peel its green and red parts.
Step: 2). Once you've done with the peeling part, cut them into small cubes. After this, wash them with water properly and set aside.
Step: 3). Now take a big pan, shift 2 cups of water to it and let it boil for a while. Shift cubes gradually to the boiled water. Wait for 7-8 minutes, until the watermelon rind cubes boil or semi-transparent.
Step: 4). Now, strain the water using a strainer.
Pro Tip: Don't throw away the strained water because we'll gonna reuse that.
Step: 5). In a large pan collect that strained water, shift a cup of sugar to it and let the sugar dissolve.
Step: 6). Now gradually add boiled watermelon rind cubes in it. Cook them for 10-15 minutes on a medium flame and let them boil.
Step: 7). Cook them until the sugar syrup becomes thickens. Once they are cooked well, set aside for a while and let them cool.
Step: 8). Quickly shift ¼ tsp vanilla essence in it.
Step: 9). Now divide them into two parts. In one part add 1.5 tsp beetroot juice to achieve a red color and in another part add 1.5 tsp turmeric juice to achieve a yellow color.
Step: 10). Leave them for 8-10 hours to soak. Strain them thoroughly with the help of a filter/strainer after 8-10 hours.
NOTE: Now it's time for the finale and it may take your lots of time.
Step: 11). Spread them uniformly and let them dry for up to 1-2 days. Since your tutti-frutti are now ready, you can use them to decorate ice creams, softies, cakes, cupcakes and muffins etc.
Pro Tip: You can use the leftover syrup to make drinks and ice pops.
